SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Education Department has extended the deadline for submission of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from community-managed SSA schools to May 15, as part of its ongoing initiative to transfer school management from the SSA framework to direct state control. This was one of the key outcomes of the fifth review meeting held on Saturday, chaired by Commissioner and Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri and attended by all District School Education Officers (DSEOs), Sub-Divisional School Education Officers (SDSEOs), and representatives of the three major SSA teacher associations in the state.
“Today is the fifth review meeting actually chaired by the Commissioner and Secretary of Education departments Vijay Kumar Mantri in the presence of all the District School Education Officers (DSEO) and the Sub-Divisional School Education Officers (SDSEOs) across the states. Together with the three associations in the state that is the Meghalaya SSA School Association, the All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers Association and the Meghalaya Fourth Teachers Association,” said president of the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) Aristotle C. Rymbai.
He added, “So out of 3000-plus community schools across the state, they have received the willingness of 2000-plus community schools. Added to that, 23 private and minority schools from East Khasi Hills District also have submitted their willingness to hand over the management from SSA to the Education Department.”
Rymbai further stated, “We have discussed in detail and at length regarding the non-uniformity in the issuing of the notification to the (School Management Committee) SMCs pertaining to obtaining the willingness to hand over the management from SSA school to the Education Department. So after a brief discussion unanimously, we have made a decision that they will issue again a letter or notification to all the SMCs which have not yet submitted their willingness with a clear clarification from the Education Department pertaining to this initiative taken by the Education Department to ask for the willingness to hand over the management of SSA to the Education Department.”
Director of School Education and Literacy, Bantailang J. Kharshandi, said, “We had a meeting with regards to the submission of NOCs from the community-managed SSA schools. So initially the deadline was given, but today we have decided to extend the deadline up to May 15 because we are seeing that many of the community-managed SSA schools still have a lot of queries and still have a lot of doubts.”
