Shillong, June 7: The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) prefers to down play the criticism of the opposition Congress on the issue related to the law and order front in Shillong. Leader of the Opposition and Congress leader Mukul Sangma called the entire handling of the law and order situation as a ‘failure’ that reflects the inability the new incumbent to carry the momentum of the inherited peaceful forward. But the State Home Minister James K Sangma in an exclusive interaction with The Sentinel on Thursday said, ‘Every one has the right to make his own opinion. Whether we have failed or succeed the people will judge”, even as he attributed to the situation in Shillong that has been brought under complete control. Pushed further on whether the other agencies from the centre has a role in the decision making process to handle the situation, James K Sangma said, “I will not comment on these opinioned views expressed by someone” Answering to Mukul Sangma’s attack, another Cabinet Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar stated on Thursday, “Speaking on whatever you wish is free of cost..There are many people who will criticize us but can you be judgmental on the government that is barely three months in power”. “Look at the death during the agitation during the aftermath of the NGT ban on coal mining, do you see any death in the latest law and order issue in Shillong”, Dhar quipped, even as he added that the criticism emanating from many quarters will not deter this government.
