SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) Engineers' Association on Tuesday staged a peaceful demonstration against the suspension of one of their colleagues — M Pohsnha. The members of the Association assembled in the office premises of the MeECL across the State. They expressed their disappointment by wearing black badges against the arbitrariness by which the order was issued without necessary procedures of establishing facts. The protest also drew unprecedented support from other Associations like the Association of Power Engineers, the MeECL Accounts Association and the MeECL Power Civil engineers Association.

Demonstrations for a few minutes were carried by sticking banners, and displaying of placards and holding of black flags by the members.

"The demonstrations across the State were silent, democratic and peaceful," said PK Shullet president of the MeECL Engineers Association. Opposing "the draconian tactics adopted by the management", the Association members "demanded the reinstatement of the suspended officer with his honour fully restored".
