Shillong: At least three members of a family and a child of two and a half years were killed due to landslides in two different places in Meghalaya's Garo Hills on Thursday morning.

According to reports, due to incessant downpours, the landslides occurred in the Gambegre block area of West Garo Hills.

Fortunately, the remaining two members, the father, and son survived and were taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Meanwhile, another incident took place in the Betasing region of South West Garo Hills, resulting in the death of a two and half years old boy.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an orange alert for heavy rains in Assam till 12 June.

Last month, the havoc created by floods and landslides had claimed 25 lives across three northeastern states with Assam being the worst hit.
