Meghalaya: 569 new COVID cases, 11 casualties registered

SHILLONG: Meghalaya recorded 11 COVID-19 fatalities, 569 fresh infections and 517 recoveries on Friday, health authorities informed.

With the latest figures, the State has registered 1,073 deaths so far from COVID-19. There are 5,791 active cases and 57,450 people so far have recovered from the disease.

Of the 11 new deaths, East Khasi Hills district recorded seven, Ri-Bhoi district two and East Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills districts recorded one each.

Of the 569 new cases, East Khasi Hills district recorded 237, Ri-Bhoi district 77, West Jaintia Hills district 72, West Garo Hills district 67, West Khasi Hills district 39, East Jaintia Hills district 22, South West Khasi Hills district 20, North Garo Hills district 11, South Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills districts nine each and East Garo Hills district six.

Of the 5,791 active cases, East Khasi Hills district has 2,131, West Garo Hills district 898, Ri-Bhoi district 716, West Jaintia Hills district 663, West Khasi Hills district 497, South West Khasi Hills district 331, East Jaintia Hills district 180, North Garo Hills district 125, East Garo Hills district 94, South Garo Hills district 87 and South West Garo Hills district 69.

Of the 8,38,850 tests conducted since the first positive cases were detected on April 13, 2020, in the State, 7,74,536 of them tested negative for the virus, as per official data.

Meanwhile, 31,770 healthcare workers received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 22,735 were administered with the second dose, 97,224 frontline workers got the first jab and 39,014 took the second shot. Moreover, 7, 44,054 persons from among the general public were inoculated with the first dose and 1,27,508 citizens were fully vaccinated with the second dose across the State as on date, data released by the National Health Mission, Meghalaya revealed.
