Meghalaya: Amid COVID Scare Class XII Exams Begins Today

SHILLONG: Amid the COVID-19 scare across the country, the Meghalaya government has decided to go ahead with the state HSSLC exams from April 16 and the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams will begin on April 19 in Meghalaya.

It is to be mentioned that this time around 36,685 candidates is set to appear for the examination in 3 streams. Meanwhile in Shillong 10,925 candidates will appear in 30 centres.

Earlier in a tweet, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma wrote, "Reviewed the #COVID19 situation in the State. Govt. has decided that the MBOSE exams for Class XII will be held as scheduled. Health Dept. has been instructed to intensify efforts to execute the vaccination drive & also increase the number of vaccination centres."

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Board of School Education Joint Director (MBoSE), M Marbaniang said that the Board has issued detailed instructions to all officers-in-charge to strictly adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP) issued by the Health Department.

Further, as per the SOP, all candidates appearing for the board examination have to mandatorily wear a mask and their body temperature has to be checked at the entry point.

The SOP also discourages the gathering of candidates before and after exams within or outside their exam centres.

On the other hand, if a candidate in any exam hall is found to be COVID positive, that particular hall will be sealed while the rest of the premises of the centre will continue to function and the students will be shifted to another examination hall.

As for the candidates who have been tested positive for COVID-19 need not have to worry as the Board will conduct separate exams for them later, Marbaniang said.

It is to be mentioned here that many students and parents have expressed their desire to postpone the examination in the fear of getting infected.
