Meghalaya: Ammunition Dump with 85 rifle cartridges recovered in South Garo Hills

Guwahati: A huge cache of ammunition suspected to belong to the proscribed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was recovered from South Garo Hills district.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), Gabriel K Iangrai on Friday informed that a police team of South Garo Hills District led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Chokpot seized a hidden cache of ammunition from Chibokgre Aking area under Chokpot Police Station in the intervening night of 26-27th August.

Iangrai added during an intensive search of the area, one box containing 85 large calibre ammunition was recovered from Jungles of Chibokgre area which was abandoned earlier by unknown militants suspected to be belonging to GNLA.

After seizing the cache, South Garo Hills District Police has appealed for the co-operation of citizens in ensuring everlasting peace in the entire Garo Hills region.

GNLA hideouts were earlier located in the forested areas in South, East and West Garo Hills districts.

As per reports, several ammunition dumps were earlier found in the Durama Hills in East Garo Hills district.

"The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was formed in 2009. Since its formation, the GNLA is believed to have been involved in the killing, abduction, extortion, bomb blasts and attacks on Security Forces.
