Shillong: Newly constructed dome of the new Meghalaya Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang collapsed on Sunday.

Fortunately, no one was injured as the recently constructed dome collapsed at midnight.

As per reports, the building has been constructed by Uttar Pradesh-based Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd, and the total cost is Rs 127 crore.

Speaking to media over the same, an Executive Engineer of PWD (Building) said that the dome collapseddue to its design.

He further said that it would take another two weeks to clear the debris while it will take at least another 8 months to raise a new dome structure.

Reportedly, the design of the entire building was approved by IIT-Rourkee's officials.

The construction work on the new assembly building started in June 2019 and was scheduled to be completed by August 2022.
