Meghalaya Biodiversity Board Wins Geospatial Excellence Award; CM Sangma Applauds Achievement

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Biodiversity Board grabbed an award for the Hyperspectral Survey of Reserve Forests—Geospatial Excellence Award in the GeoSmart India 2024 Summit, which was held in Hyderabad. 

The landmark decision followed the Meghalaya Biodiversity Board's collaboration with Garuda UAV, wherein they conducted forest mapping and comprehensive species mapping for 29 reserve forests across the state.

The techniques were carried out using manned and UAV-powered high-resolution LiDAR and hyperspectral sensors. Following the achievement, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma congratulated the team for bringing hono to the state. 

Earlier, CM Sangma also released a book ‘A Sociological Study of The Khasi Religion’ by Dr. Sharalyne Khyriemmujat, which documents the traditional Khasi belief.

The book also highlights the role of the Seng Khasi in preserving the indigenous faith. The Meghalaya chief minister congratulated the writer upon the publication of her book.

He further emphasized his consistent encouragement of researchers and scholars to engage in comprehensive documentation of Meghalaya's indigenous culture and traditions.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya CM officially unveiled "Um Rupa Premium Mineral Water" on December 3, highlighting a significant step for local entrepreneurship in the West Khasi Hills District.

The newly launched bottled water brand distinguishes itself through its locally sourced spring water and innovative glass bottle packaging, signaling a commitment to environmental sustainability.
