SHILLONG: Ignored by the Nationalist Paeple Party (NPP) in the upcoming formation of the Executive Committee (EC) to the Garo Hills Automous District Council, the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) on Saturday stated that parading 15 recent elected MDCs before the Governor is not in sync with the Meghalaya High Court order in 2000.

BJP State president Earnest Mawrie told newsmen at the party office that the party's State leadership did not recieve any invitation to be part of the coalition. Newly elected MDC (Member of District Council) Bernard N. Marak stated that the NPP is scared because skeletons will start tumbling from the cupboards of the GHADC (Garo Hills Autonomous District Council). "The financial mess at the GHADC is due to the NPP's misgovernance, corruption and misappropriation of funds,'' added Marak who is one of the two BJP MDCs elected to the 29 member House.

Continuing with his diatribe againt the NPP leadership, the BJP leader said, "Even if we are invited to be part of the upcoming dispensation, the post of Chief Executive Member ( CEM) and Chairman should go to the party.''

He further said that the NPP (National People's Party) is apprehensive of them because that they will not tolerate corruption in the cash-starved GHADC.

It may be mentioned that the BJP is part of the NPP-led government MDA (Meghalaya Democratic Alliance) government in the State. But of late, there has been an open spat ahead of the GHADC polls. The BJP has been targetting the NPP-led EC in the past few months to the extent that it has demanded a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) inquiry into the alleged financial anomalies in the GHADC.

Furthermore, the State BJP leadership also said the that the NPP has misled the Governor by claiming that they have the numbers. "Fifteen is not the number because as per the Meghalya Court order, the majority mark is 17," stated Bernard Marak, adding, "We will lodge a complaint with the Governor on Monday."

As per the schedule, the election of the CEM and Chairman is due on Monday.

State BJP president Mawrie also accused the government of discrimination on the three MDCs in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) "We have three MDCs in the JHADC; but, the schemes channelized through them are full of disparity,'' alleged Mawrie.
