SHILLONG: A delegation of state BJP leaders, led by Minister AL Hek, visited the agitating postgraduate students of the North East Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy at their campus.
Before meeting the students, the BJP delegation met with institute officials, who provided an update on the status of the grievances raised by the students.
The key issues discussed included the demand for an increase in stipends and the affiliation of the postgraduate course with North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
According to the BJP spokesperson, the efforts are underway to address the primary grievances, with resolutions expected within 8 to 10 days. Following this, the delegation met with the protesting postgraduate students, accompanied by supportive undergraduate students. The students detailed their concerns and cited a lack of response from the faculty, which had compelled them to resort to a hunger strike.
Noting that one student had been hospitalized, the BJP delegation earnestly urged the protesters to temporarily suspend their hunger strike. The students were assured that the state BJP would escalate the matter to the Central Government to ensure prompt resolution.
