SHILLONG: “We cannot form a government or increase our MLA strength without building from the grassroots-and that’s exactly what we’re doing,” declared Gagan Jain, State Convenor of BJP programmes, as the party intensified efforts to deepen its organizational base in Meghalaya.
To mark its growing momentum, the State BJP organized a compelling exhibition chronicling the party’s 45-year journey -a determined march toward nation-building that has seen the party helm the Central Government for three consecutive terms under one of the most popular Prime Ministers in global politics, Narendra Modi. The exhibition reflected the BJP’s unwavering commitment to securing the nation and ensuring prosperity for all citizens.
BJP leaders also reminded attendees of the party’s pivotal role in empowering tribal communities. The elevation of India’s first tribal president, Droupadi Murmu, and the appointment of a tribal Chief Minister in Chhattisgarh symbolize BJP’s intent. A range of government schemes tailored for the hill tribes of the Northeast-including market access initiatives and skill development-underline the Modi government’s targeted tribal welfare policies. The recent passage of the Waqf Bill, which protects tribal land under the Sixth Schedule, is yet another milestone.
As part of the exhibition, the State BJP also hosted a workshop to highlight a national campaign honouring the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar-aimed at preserving the sanctity of the Constitution and restoring citizen confidence in it. Leaders criticized the Congress party’s historical betrayal of constitutional values, noting how the First Amendment of 1951 curbed free speech, and how the Emergency remains a dark chapter in Indian democracy. They also pointed out the misuse of President’s Rule 88 times to topple elected state governments.
