SHILLONG: In its vow towards making the international border smuggling free, BSF Meghalaya on Wednesday rescued 43 cattle from different locations on the India-Bangladesh border which were meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh.

BSF troops, acting on specific tip-off, intercepted two cattle-laden trucks while they proceeding towards the international border. However, the drivers managed to escape from the spot.

According to the BSF, miscreants usually unload cattle in the forest area near the international border and get them across to Bangladesh on getting the opportunity.

The BSF of Meghalaya frontier seized 377 cattle in this month.

The seized cattle were handed over to the concerned police outpost for further disposal.

The BSF has identified vulnerable routes/patches used frequently by cattle smugglers and are dominating the sensitive areas by deploying additional manpower and gadgets.

BSF is maintaining a high degree of alertness on the international border to maintain national security as well as to prevent all kinds of trans-border crimes and illegal activities.
