Meghalaya Cabinet nod to acquire funds for Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP)

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Tuesday approved the proposal for availing of loans for the implementation of the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP).

Informing media persons after the Cabinet meeting, Minister James K Sangma said that the MITP has been formulated with the objective to improve road connectivity, ropeways and inland waterways for transportation while keeping in view tourism opportunities in the State.

Sangma said that this programme is also expected to bring about better access to markets, ease traffic congestion and to promote overall socio-economic development of the State.

He said that the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance had approved the project for external assistance of $300 dollars to be sought in two phases of $150 million dollars each.

“So in view of this, the approval of the Cabinet was sought for the implementation of the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project in the State,” Sangma added.
