Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday inaugurated the office building of Hima Mawphlang at Lumrynkew Mawiong, Mawphlang, East Khasi Hills.
Calling the occasion "historic," the chief minister said, "The Hima has lived and performed sacred traditions for close to 1,000 years but functioned without an office."
Recognizing Hima Mawphlang as a heritage of the people, he added, "It has been standing as a symbol of culture, tradition, and identity." The chief minister assured the sanctioning of funds to meet the infrastructure needs of the new office.
Highlighting Mawphlang's significance as a tourist destination, known for its Sacred Grove and Heritage Village, Sangma announced, "?25 crore is being sanctioned through the Swadesh Darshan Scheme for the development of a tourism centre and infrastructure in the Sacred Grove area."
In a series of developmental announcements, he revealed that sanctioned posts for the Mawphlang Science & Commercial College would enable the commencement of classes this year. He further declared financial aid of Rs 1 lakh for Mawphlang Secondary School and an additional Rs 1 lakh for Pynshailang Lyngdoh and his group to procure musical instruments. The chief minister urged Hima Mawphlang to document its rich heritage, stating, "This will ensure it is preserved for generations and shared with the world." He also pledged to extend the Chief Minister's Research Grant to support research initiatives in the region.
