Meghalaya Chief Minister inaugurates Orchid Log House and Canopy Walk near Shillong

Guwahati: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on June 13 inaugurated the newly constructed Orchid Log House and Canopy Walk at Mawkasiang, near Mawdiangdiang, Shillong.

The tourism infrastructure project funded by Swadesh Darshan from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India that consists of 20 log houses is expected to enable the State to attract tourists keen to explore nature. The facility is about 20 km from Shillong city and is located amidst the scenic hills of Mawdiangdiang.

Inaugurating the facility the Chief Minister informed that currently, training of manpower for the hospitality sector is underway in the premises, which will be open for tourists once the Covid-19 pandemic is over.

"The idea is to work towards the future on how we will adapt to tourism as we deal with Covid situation. We need to plan, we need a new model for promoting tourism in the State and the entire experience for the tourist," said the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister along with Health Minister A.L Hek also discussed with members of the Golf Club Shillong on measures to be taken to improve the infrastructure facilities for the famed Golf Course.
