Meghalaya Chief Minister Launches Facebook’s Boost Your Business' Programme

With an aim at boosting business through the social media platform Facebook, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma launched Facebooks nationwide 'Boost Your Business' programme in the state on Thursday. Meghalaya government looks for opening new employment opportunities for the educated youths of the state through this programme.

While launching the programme Sagma says, "Our goal is to create digitally inclusive communities with a strong and vibrant economy for the state." As Facebook aims at recognizing the potential of small business owners and entrepreneurial culture, the social media website partnered with the Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship and Department of Tourism in order to digitally train 10,000 people in next one year.

The Meghalaya CM hopes to be able to develop a community that will provide Meghalayas artisans and business owners with global visibility with the help of Facebook's reach and support. He added, "This will be a step forward in encouraging entrepreneurs of the state to drive to grow and contribute to the economy."

The very goal of the BoostYourBusiness programme of Facebook is to arm Indian businesses with adequate knowledge, skills and technology as this will help them stay innovative and connect with customers at home and abroad.

The event was attended by entrepreneurs from the state who also shared their success stories. At the occasion, five inspiring entrepreneurs were felicitated. A video on the success of Mathew Sangma, a Tura based entrepreneur was also launched who sells honey, green tea and handmade bamboo products on Facebook platform.

Facebook Public Policy Director Ankhi Das, elaborating more on the success to be gained from Facebook, said, "The online space has opened up new avenues of doing business. With this programme we will empower local businesses by providing training and resources to build up a digital presence and grow their businesses beyond what the traditional offline economies offer."
