SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday flagged off a consignment of 1,700 metric tonnes of broomgrass from Khlieh Umsten in Ri-Bhoi district, marking a significant step under the government’s flagship CM-ASSURE programme. The consignment has been dispatched to the Central Warehousing Corporation facility in Guwahati, where it will be stored and later auctioned to the highest bidders.
The CM-ASSURE scheme aims to support farmers by safeguarding them against market price fluctuations, focusing primarily on non-perishable commodities with extended shelf lives. The Chief Minister also handed over pick-up vehicles to beneficiaries of the CM-Elevate scheme during the event.
Speaking at the programme, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the agricultural ecosystem and promote value-added products. He emphasised the need to increase production volume as a key priority to scale up agricultural output.
“The government will collaborate with the community and entrepreneurs to bring about a turnaround in the rural economy through best agricultural practices,” he added.
