SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday inaugurated the extended building of the creche run by the Seng Kynthei Mawlai Nonglum.

In his brief speech to the gathering, the Chief Minister congratulating the members of the Seng Kynthei and said that the Government will soon start the Early Childhood Development Programme which will focus and stress on the mental, physical and emotional growth and development of children between 0-8 years, as guiding and nurturing them during this phase is very crucial.

He added that this programme will be carried out in centres like the Seng Kynthei Mawlai creche.

The Chief Minister also assured support for the boundary fencing of the building.

An amount of Rs 6.50 lakh was provided to the crèche from the Chief Minister's Special Development Fund and a room was extended to accommodate 30 children.

The Chief Minister on Monday also attended the Beautification Programme at Mawlai Kynton Massar.

Speaking to the gathering, Sangma expressed happiness at being a part of a programme that is meaningful and important to every citizen. He said that the invitation for the beautification programme was given to every locality in some of the localities in Shillong, Tura and Jowai with multiple purposes in mind and to also celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the State in a befitting manner, where all communities can participate.

The Chief Minister also lauded the efforts of the volunteers for the initiative to clean the river Umsawlong, which is very important for the locality and the surrounding areas.

He also announced an aid of Rs 2.5 lakh to the volunteers for the cause.

He further added that the river Umsawlong will be included under the Externally Aided Projects for preserving the catchment areas.
