SHILLONG: Continuing his election campaign for NPP (National People's Party) candidates contesting the GHADC (Garo Hills Autonomous District Council) polls, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma addressed several meetings in the Chokpot area, including the one at Deku Bazar.

The rallies were held to seek mandate for party candidate Wenison Ch Marak contesting from Rongrikkimgre Constituency.

Addressing the masses, the CM continued his criticism against the Opposition Congress. Referring to the NPP outreach schemes during the past three years of the present NPP government, Conrad asked the masses to vote for NPP candidates to further continue the development agenda in the Garo Hills along with the entire State of Meghalaya.

He said that during the previous 10 years of Congress tenure in the State, development activities did not take as expected by the people. However, in the brief period of three years, the NPP has made significant development interventions to boost development in the Garo Hills and the State.

Siju Rongara MLA Rakkam Sangma also campaigned with Chief Minister Sangma and Deputy CM of Manipur Joykumar Yumnam in the Chokpot area of South Garo Hills to seek mandate for Rongrikimgre GHADC candidate Wenison Ch. Marak. Welcoming prominent Congress leader Jonilson Ch Marak into the party, he urged people of Chokpot vote for NPP. Deputy CM of Manipur, Joykumar Yumnam further said that as the regional parties have a very limited role, it was important for the people to realise the fact and vote for a party that has a bigger role to play for the common interest of the region. He told the gathering that NPP is working across Northeast as a united voice to make the voice of the region loud and clear. Yumnam also campaigned in the South Garo Hills region of the State.

Addressing an election meeting at Deku Bazar, he recalled the contribution of (late) P.A. Sangma in Indian politics. Talking about the ideology of the party, he said that the NPP works for the welfare of indigenous people, minorities and the weaker section of the society.
