Guwahati: Amid swirling controversy, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has tested negative for Covid-19. The Chief Minister has left for Manipur on Tuesday, reports said.

Sangma, it may be recalled, had gone to Manipur on Sunday for a troubleshooting mission. In Manipur, as many as 4 MLAs from his own National People's Party (NPP) had left the BJP-led coalition and had joined hands with Congress' veteran Okram Ibobi Singh.

Conrad returned to Meghalaya on the same day, and amid questions whether he would be sent for quarantine, had his samples taken for testing. Now, Meghalaya Health Minister Al Hek has clarified that the NPP leader has tested negative and has returned to Meghalaya for yet another round of talks with his seething party-mates.

The Health Minister has also informed that so far, 16,931 samples have so far been sent for testing, of which, 16,585 have tested negative while the results of 300 samples were awaited.
