Meghalaya CM Says That His State Will Become a 10 Billion USD Economy by 2028

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma led the Independence Day celebrations in his state. He hoisted the National Flag at the central event hosted at the Polo Ground in the capital city.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister emphasised the importance of upholding the law and order situation in the state as a prerequisite for economic as well as social development. He also spoke about the ongoing resolution of the interstate border disputes with the neighbouring state of Assam. The CM also mentioned the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Assam government and called it the first step towards the complete resolution of all disputes.

Speaking about the development, Conrad Sangma also said that his government has now set a target to establish Meghalaya as a 10 billion US dollar-strong economy by the end of his second term, which aims at doubling their GDP. He went on to add that India is on the verge of becoming the third largest economy in the country in the recent time with the prospects of sizing up to 5 trillion US dollars in the coming five years.

He said that the state government had worked hard in the last five months to reach the present level and will increase their efforts to improve it further in the coming session. He also announced that the state has set a target of creating over five lakh new employment opportunities in the state in the years to come. He also underlined the efforts of entrepreneurs and businesses across various fields to ensure the development of the state and mentioned the fields of agriculture and agri-allied industries. Conrad Sangma also mentioned the successful export of organic produce from the state including fruits and vegetables that have made their way to markets outside of the country. He also expressed hope that export lots will continue to increase and people continue to become stronger economically.
