SHILLONG: The Army on Friday brought pre-fabricated girders or ready-to-fit girders to the illegal flooded rat-hole coal mine in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district.

According to rescue operation spokesperson R Susngi, these girders were transported to shaft no.5 and 15 and the installation of platforms will be ready by Saturday itself.

“Installation of one pump in shaft no. 8 by Kirloskar Brothers Ltd was completed. A generator was also placed in advance to speed up the process. Pumping of water will take place immediately after the second pump is installed,” Susngi informed.

He also said that as usual, de-watering is being carried out by Coal India Limited.

The Kirloskar Brothers Limited pumps also were used since Thursday evening in which pumping of water took place till Friday 5 pm and after 32 hour, the discharged of water is 28, 80, 000 litres.

However, the KSB pumps remained suspended since March 26 due to some technical problem.

The NDRF and the SDRF as usual are providing assistance to other agencies with all available resources.
