SHILLONG: Mohendro Rapsang, a Congress legislator who has been suspended following an altercation with the Meghalaya state Congress, is rumoured to formally join the National People's Party (NPP) in the upcoming week.

The suspended Congressman from West Shillong told the media, "As of today, I am still a Congress lawmaker, but I will no longer be running for office in Congress because I am under suspension."

In another 10 days, he would resign from both the Congress and his position as an MLA. He would then join the NPP.

A further complaint made by the suspended Congress MLA was that he and the other suspended MLAs were mistreated by the Congress party.

The National People's Party (NPP) national vice president and deputy chief minister of Meghalaya, Prestone Tynsong, expressed optimism that his party will establish the government on its own in 2023 on Tuesday, December 6.

The NPP leader responded when questioned that he does not view other political parties as a threat and that they should not view NPP as a threat either because the elections in Meghalaya are completely different.

Additionally, Prestone Tynsong, the deputy chief minister of Meghalaya and national vice president of the National People's Party (NPP), also voiced confidence on Tuesday, December 6 that his party will form the government on its own in 2023.

The NPP leader said in response to a question that he does not see other political parties as a threat and that they should not see NPP as a threat either because the elections in Meghalaya are very different.

"I keep telling you that Meghalayan elections are completely different. The choice of the party in this case is secondary because the people of Meghalaya choose their candidates based on their personal preferences, relationships, and closeness to those candidates. But in the main, I'm telling you that winning elections in the state of Meghalaya, I've observed and I've done my research, people don't elect the candidate based on the party line but based on their personal line," he remarked.
