SHILLONG: With nearly two weeks left for election day in the Northeast Indian state of Meghalaya, the competing political parties are busy attacking each other based on several points on their polling agendas. The latest one among them is the attack by the Indian National Congress on the previously ruling National People’s Party on Monday.

Pawan Khare, the Chairman of the Media department of the Indian National Congress mentioned that the Conrad K Sangma-led National People’s Party government has been looting the people of Meghalaya for the past five years. He mentioned that the party members were involved in multiple major scams while they were in power in the state and released a “charge sheet” for the same.

"They have done the Assembly dome collapse scam, the Covid scam, the MUDA scam, the coal scam, the Saubhagya scam, the rice scam, the excise/bond cartelisation scam, the casino scam, the friends and family scam, the government contracts scam, and the police purchase scam. These are the examples of irregularities of the NPP government," mentioned Pawan Khare.

The Congress leader also took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party during his speech. Terming it as corrupt, he criticised the political party for snapping its ties with the National People’s Party just before the elections. "If an ally can label such charges, I am really afraid," he added.

The chairman of the media department of the Congress Party also expressed his confidence in the people of the state will give the proper reply to the National People’s Party using their voting powers in the upcoming elections.

Meghalaya and Nagaland go to the elections on February 27 and the final list of candidates across the constituencies has already been released. Similarly, voting takes place in Tripura on February 16 and the polling campaigns have already come to an end in the state.
