SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has come out in defense of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), claiming its position as one of the top institutions of learning in the region. In his statement, Sangma reiterated that USTM provides authentic degrees and adheres to all applicable state laws, making it a top private university in the region.
Sangma acknowledged that while there may be concerns raised by the Assam government, the Meghalaya government has no issues with the university. He noted that the Assam police are currently addressing any related matters, and he expressed confidence that the legal process would unfold appropriately.
Although he refrained from commenting on allegations made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sangma assured that USTM possesses all necessary permissions and documentation.
Highlighting the university's strengths, Sangma stated, “USTM has the best infrastructure, environment, staff, and manpower, contributing greatly to the youth of Meghalaya.” He pointed out that USTM is the largest educational network in the Northeastern region and has received an ‘A’ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
In addition, the university has also been ranked the best among India's 200 private universities for three consecutive years by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
Sangma's defense of USTM highlights the importance of the institution in the educational sphere in Meghalaya and the general Northeastern context.
