
SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has been reelected unopposed as the National President of the National People’s Party (NPP) for the upcoming 2025-2028 term. The organizational election took place on Saturday, March 15, at the Constitutional Club of India in New Delhi.
Sangma’s reelection is a notable achievement for the NPP, which has been expanding its influence across the northeastern states of India. Alongside Sangma, Paknga Bage was also elected unopposed as the General Secretary (Organisation), while Dr. Mehtab Agitok Sangma retained his position as the National Treasurer without contest.
At the meeting, Meghalaya State President Prestone Tynsong and Manipur State President Joy Kumar Singh suggested that a National Working President position be established in the party. They suggested James K. Sangma, the former General Secretary (Organisation), for the new post.
In his election address, Conrad Sangma hinted at the fact that the National Committee for the 2025-2028 term would be announced shortly. His reelection is expected to strengthen the party's presence in the region and prepare it for future election battles.
