Meghalaya: COVID-19 patients can now end isolation after 10 days

Guwahati: The Meghalaya Government has declared that COVID-19 patients can now end their isolation period after 10 days.

Following a review meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said "We have decided to amend the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols laid down right from the first day of the COVID-19 based on the latest guidelines from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)."

As per previous guidelines, patients were allowed to come out of isolation only after 14 days of being tested positive for coronavirus.

Explaining the revised quarantine norms, Tynsong said, "Those tested positive for COVID-19 at the entry point to the state, the protocol is that we will immediately take them to the corona care centre for further investigation but they only need to isolate for 10 days."

He also said the revised quarantine norms are mandatory for the returnees as well, and they will also have to undergo home isolation for 10 days.

"The moment they (returnees) landed in Guwahati, they have to register at the entry points for rapid antigen test and if found negative, they will be allowed to go straight away to their respective houses and undergo home isolation for ten days," he further added.

Tynsong reported that the amended protocols will immediately come into effect from August 21.
