SHILLONG: Meghalaya registered 159 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday taking the total active cases to 1,902. The State also recorded 73 recoveries taking the number of such patients to 2,264. The toll stands at 29, informed Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War.

Of the new cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 106 (Armed & paramilitary forces: nine; civilians: 97); East Jaintia Hills: 34; Ri Bhoi: eight; West Garo Hills: six; South West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills: two each; and East Garo Hills: one.

Meghalaya also recorded 74 recoveries during the last 24 hours with East Khasi Hills registering 40 (Armed & paramilitary forces: 25; civilians: 15); East Garo Hills: 15; West Garo Hills: 12 (Armed & paramilitary forces: 11; civilian: one); West Khasi Hills: four; South Garo Hills: two; and North Garo Hills: one. The total recovered case so far are 2,264.

The district-wise breakup of the active cases are: East Khasi Hills: 1,252 (Armed & paramilitary forces: 244; civilians: 1,008); East Jaintia Hills: 237; Ri Bhoi: 160 (Armed & paramilitary forces: 47; civilians: 113); West Garo Hills: 177 (Armed & paramilitary forces: 65; civilians: 112); South Garo Hills: 18; West Jaintia Hills: 14; North Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills: 12 each; South West Garo

Hills: 11; South West Khasi Hills: five; and East Garo Hills: three.

The samples sent for testing till date are 1,20,576, samples which tested negative are 1,15611 and reports of 770 are awaited. Moreover, a total of 37,080 persons entered Meghalaya till Wednesday.
