Meghalaya COVID toll rises to 13; Active cases 1,186

Meghalaya registered another COVID-19-related death during the last 24 hours thereby taking the State's death toll to 13 on Wednesday.

SHILLONG: Meghalaya registered another COVID-19-related death during the last 24 hours thereby taking the State's death toll to 13 on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Dil Bahadur Biswa (72 years of age) from Nongmensong. The patient was brought to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) at around 1:03 am on September 1. He breathed his last at about 8:45 am on September 2. The immediate cause of his death was Type-II respiratory failure, the antecedent cause was COVID pneumonia and the contributing cause was chronic obstructive airway disease, informed the Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya recorded 77 new cases and 83 recoveries on Wednesday.

Of the 77 new cases, 41 are from East Khasi Hills (armed and paramilitary forces: two; civilians: 39); Ri-Bhoi: 16 (armed and paramilitary forces: two; civilians: 14); East Jaintia Hills: nine; West Garo Hills: six; South Garo Hills: three; and East Garo Hills: two.

With the new cases, the total number of active cases is 1,186. Of these, East Khasi Hills accounts for 813 (armed and paramilitary forces: 201; civilians: 612); West Garo Hills: 118 (armed and paramilitary forces: 78; civilians: 40); East Garo Hills: 83; Ri-Bhoi: 71 (armed and paramilitary forces: eight; civilians: 63); West Khasi Hills: 45; East Jaintia Hills: 23; South Garo Hills: 19 (armed and paramilitary forces: 11; civilians: eight); North Garo Hills: nine; and West Jaintia Hills: two.

Meghalaya also recorded 83 new recoveries on Wednesday, with East Khasi Hills accounting for 68 (armed and paramilitary forces: nine; civilians: 59); West Garo Hills: six; Ri-Bhoi: five; and East Jaintia Hills: four. The total recovered cases in the State now stands at 1,318.

Of the 92,453 samples sent for testing till date, as many as 89,162 tested negative and results of 774 are awaited. The number of people who have returned to the State is 32,994.
