Meghalaya COVID toll rises to 40 with 58 new positive cases

SHILLONG: Meghalaya, on Tuesday, recorded 58 new COVID-19 cases and 179 new recoveries even as two more COVID-19 patients died in Meghalaya on Tuesday, pushing the death toll to 40. So far, Meghalaya has recorded 4,791 COVID-19 cases; of which 2,047 are active and 2,706 have recovered.

On the new casualties, Health authorities informed, "Sudip Karmakar (41-year-old) was declared brought dead to Woodland Hospital; and his swab smaples were tested positive for COVID-19. In the other instance, Abdul Hazin (60-year-old) was also declared brought dead to Nazareth Hospital and tested positive for the viral infection." Of the new cases recorded on Tuesday, East Khasi Hills accounted for 45 followed by five in Ri-Bhoi, four in East Jaintia Hills, two in East Garo Hills, and one each in South West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills.

Of the 179 new recovered cases, 141 were registered in East Khasi Hills followed by 22 in West Garo Hills; eight in Ri-Bhoi; three in East Jaintia Hills; two each in South Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills; besides one in East Garo Hills. Of the 1,35,571 samples sent for testing till date, samples tested negative were 1,30,096 and reports of 684 samples are being awaited. Altogether 39,280 people have entered Meghalaya till date, informed the official.
