SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, RM Kurbah, declared a curfew in Meghalaya's Mawkynrew village after there were distressing reports of vandalism and violence at the Ramakrishna Mission School. The order is based on the significant decline of law and order in the area, with increasing public concern that further violence might break out.
Kurbah added in an official statement, "Information has been received indicating serious disturbances in Mawkynrew Village under Madanrting Police Station, with reports of vandalism leading to property damage and injuries." He pointed out that such activities had a potential for further escalation which might lead to loss of lives and property.
The curfew will be implemented immediately and continue until further notice. Mawkynrew village, identified as a hotbed of unrest, is the one affected by this decision. The curfew aims to restore order and prevent further incidents that might jeopardize the safety of the residents.
Local authorities need to keep track of the situation and do all it takes to maintain order. The curfew imposed is, in fact, a reflection of how committed the administration is to its people's safety and security while there is growing unrest. Residents are called upon to observe the curfew orders and stay indoors until the situation normalizes.
