TURA: A minor argument between two areca nut vendors tragically escalated into a fatal incident on Tuesday morning near the bustling supermarket area, opposite the MTC bus stand in Tura.
According to eyewitnesses, the disagreement began as a heated verbal exchange between the two men, who were later identified as uncle and nephew. The situation quickly spiraled out of control, leading to a physical altercation.
Amid the fight, the nephew attacked his uncle with a Garo Dao, a traditional machete-like weapon, delivering a devastating blow to the abdomen. Bystanders rushed to assist the injured man, who was bleeding profusely, and arranged for his immediate transport to a nearby hospital.
Despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries while en route, leaving the community in shock. Both individuals involved in the incident are believed to hail from the Mancachar-Singimari area, a region known for its areca nut trade.
Local police acted promptly, arriving at the scene shortly after the attack. They apprehended the nephew, who was still at the location, and seized the Garo Dao used in the assault.
Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the altercation. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the dispute might have been rooted in business-related tensions, but officials have yet to confirm.
