SHILLONG: British pop icon Ed Sheeran is set to perform in Shillong on February 12, 2025, as part of his Mathematics Tour, with JN Stadium expected to host a crowd of 26,000 fans, including visitors from outside Meghalaya. Authorities have enforced strict regulations, barring children below five years from attending the event. Deputy Commissioner Rosetta Mary Kurbah confirmed the restriction, stating, “Children below 5 years old will not be allowed entry, even if accompanied by a ticket-holding parent.”
The concert, organized by BookMyShow, follows Shillong’s growing reputation as a hub for international music events, including last year’s Bryan Adams concert. The BookMyShow team has already arrived in the city to oversee preparations, aiming to replicate the energy of Coldplay’s India performances.
At a press briefing, DC Kurbah, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem, and event manager Nikita outlined security measures, crowd control strategies, and logistical plans for the highly anticipated concert. With only two designated entry points, authorities are urging attendees to arrive early to avoid congestion.
“Today’s meeting is regarding the preparation for the Ed Sheeran concert, which is happening the day after tomorrow. For the kind information of all ticket holders, the gates will open at 4 PM. However, we are a little concerned because there are only two entry points. Therefore, we have called this meeting to alert attendees to arrive early to avoid congestion,” said DC Kurbah. She further emphasized, “The total number of gates is two—one at the main gate and another from Golf Link. Additionally, the road leading from Golf Link to JN Stadium will be closed at 3 PM. Similar to previous concerts like Bryan Adams, traffic arrangements will be in place from 3 PM.”
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem assured that traffic and security measures are in place. Event Manager Nikita provided details on the entry process, saying, “The lineup will begin at 3 PM, allowing people to enter the SRT parking area. However, access to the stadium premises will only begin at 4 PM. The checking process includes three layers: the first soft check for wristbands, the hard check at security gates with frisking and metal detectors, and a final soft check before entry into the stadium.”
