Meghalaya EMRI Workers’ Union (MEMRIWU) Workers Demand Refund of Cut Salaries

A CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya EMRI Workers’ Union (MEMRIWU) has alleged that the management has deducted their salaries when they did not attend work during the strike period. It has further demanded that the management must give an official clarification on these deductions.

Joseph Pyngrope, publicity secretary of the workers’ union said, “The moot point is: Does the management have the authority to deduct the salary of the employees or did the government give them the authority to deduct the salary? Besides an explanation on this matter, we demand that our deducted salary be refunded immediately.”

It may be mentioned that after the EMRI workers went on strike, the Meghalaya government formed a committee to resolve the various issues of the workers.

According to the Union their demands for the salary hike, new ambulances and others were put up to give a better service to the public.
