Meghalaya: Fake Notes Worth Rs 10+ Lakh Seized, 2 Arrested

Shillong: In a significant operation, the Meghalaya Police have seized counterfeit Indian currency notes worth Rs 10.35 lakh and arrested two individuals in connection with the crime. Acting on specific information, the police conducted a surprise check near Bajengdoba and intercepted the two suspects. Upon searching them, authorities discovered multiple bundles of counterfeit Rs 500 notes in their possession.

The police suspect that a larger conspiracy involving several individuals is behind this illicit racket. A case has been registered, and investigations are currently underway to uncover further connections and details.

In a similar incident last month, the Mizoram police seized a considerable amount of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) valued at Rs 25.20 lakh and apprehended two individuals associated with it. The arrested individuals were identified as Laltanpui (42) from Vairengte Kawngthar veng in Kolasib district and Lallungmuana (40) from N. Vanlaiphai Rawlkhang veng in Serchhip district.

In response to specific information, a squad from the Mizoram police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Special Branch (SB) confiscated counterfeit money from the two defendants' hands worth Rs 25,20,000. The confiscated currencies included 1007 notes with a value of Rs 2000 and 1012 notes with a value of Rs 500.

Additionally, the Assam Police confiscated Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth Rs 2.25 lakh in the Nagaon district on May 6 and arrested an individual found in possession of the counterfeit currency. The arrested person was identified as Rasidul Hussain.

A police team launched an operation in the Borghat area near Nagaon town and successfully seized the fake currency notes. The operation was carried out after receiving information about their plan to sell FICN in the Borghat bypass area. After the arrest, the police carried out a search at a residence in the Samaguri police station's Muamari neighbourhood. There, they discovered FICN worth Rs 2.25 lakh.

These incidents highlight the ongoing battle against counterfeit currency in various parts of the country. Law enforcement agencies are actively working to dismantle these illicit networks and apprehend those involved in the production, circulation, and distribution of fake currency. Such operations are crucial in maintaining the integrity of the national currency and safeguarding the financial interests of the nation.
