Meghalaya gears up to receive returnees: Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that a special train carrying 231 stranded students and individuals from Meghalaya is reaching Guwahati Railway station from Telangana on Saturday night.

The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that another special train from Haryana carrying 139 residents of the State will reach Guwahati Railway Station on Sunday afternoon.

Tynsong said that a special train from Delhi will depart on May 27.

The government has set up dedicated phone numbers for those stranded residents of the State in New Delhi who wants to return home.

The dedicated phone numbers are – 011-23014341, 011-23014451 and 9968262299.

Another train from Jaipur will be leaving on May 26.

"The State government is doing it's best to bring back all those stranded in Mumbai, Pune and Goa in special trains," Tynsong said even as he requested those stranded to be patient.

Meanwhile, State Health Minister AL Hek informed that samples tested till 2 pm on Saturday were 4,538, out of which 4224 were negative and results of 300 are awaited.

It may be mentioned that a total of 14 people in the State had been tested positive for COVID-19, one died, 12 have recovered and 1 is active.

Hek informed that out of the stranded students and individuals who reached the State from Bengaluru on May 21, 532 tested negative for COVID-19 and the results of 671 have been sent for testing.
