Meghalaya girls steal limelight at beauty pageant in South Africa

SHILLONG: Three local girls from Meghalaya have brought laurels to the state after winning in their respective category in a beauty pageant held at South Africa.

One of the local girls, Nadia Mary Syiemlieh won the Queen of the Universe Pageant in South Africa held on September 1 this month. There were around 35 contestants in the pageant with two contestants from Meghalaya in which another contest from the state Hundaka Hawaki Lhuid bagged the 2nd Princess.

In the beauty pageant, Carla Van Zyl from the United States of America bagged the title of 1st Princess.

This is the first beauty pageant in which the girls from the state are getting an opportunity to show their talent outside the country.

Meanwhile, in another beauty pageant christened as the ‘Rainbow Nation 2018’ for contestants in the age group of 19-25 years in which 45 girls participated, Hundaka Hawaki Lhuid from Meghalaya bagged the crown while two other contestant from South Africa namely Tivani Makamu and Sune Bothma bagged the title of 1st Princess and 2nd Princess.

However, in the Ms Rainbow Nation 2018 beauty pageant, Cindy Burrel from South Africa won the crown while Marchie M Sangma from Meghalaya grabbed the title of 1st Princess, and Netesha Michaels from South Africa became the 2nd Princess.
