Meghalaya government allows construction work to resume in State from May 4

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government on Saturday has allowed the resumption of various activities in the State from May 4 during a review meeting.

Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that in Shillong Urban agglomeration and Mylliem community and rural development block, construction work has been allowed to resume.

Earlier, in these two areas construction work was not allowed, even though it was permitted in other parts of the state since at that particular period these two places fell under the red zone.

Now with the recovery of 10 COVID-19 active cases, Shillong Urban Agglomeration has turned into an orange zone.

Apart from construction activities hardware and electrical shops and quarrying has also been allowed in the Shillong Urban Agglomeration and Mylliem Community and Rural Development block.

The review meeting also decided that from May 4 offices in the Secretariat as well as in all the Directorates officers are to resume work, while for the C and D category staff the attendance should be only 33 percent in a day.

Tynsong informed that the Chief Secretary has been directed to work out modalities for the 33 percent attendance for the C and D category staffs.

The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that in the Shillong Urban Agglomeration where curfew has been imposed, it has been lifted and only night curfew will stay from 7 pm to 7 am until further orders.

Meanwhile, wine stores will also reopen from May 4. Also public transportation in Shillong Urban Agglomeration has also been allowed but with a strength of 25 percent only.

The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that samples sent for testing so far is 1707 out of which 1655 cases were negative and the results of 40 samples are awaited.

"We are now safe from COVID-19 and there is nothing to worry. The government with the various departments is working tirelessly to ensure that there is no new infection in the future," Tynsong said.

He also urged the cooperation of the citizens of the state to keep Meghalaya COVID-19 free.
