Meghalaya government allows Inter-district movements across State

SHILLONG: In view of various relaxations made by the Centre, the Meghalaya government on Monday, decided to lift restrictions on inter-district movements within the State.

"There will be no more restrictions of movement of people from one district to another. They are free to move within the State," Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said.

The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that a review meeting has also decided to allow 50 per cent inter-district movement of vehicles of both public and private.

Tynsong also told that within Shillong Urban Agglomeration, movement of 50 per cent of public and private vehicles are allowed and the district administration will put in place SOPs and protocols issued by the Health Department.

He also said that the review meeting has also dedicated to allow reopening of various kinds of shops expect for barber shops, salon, beauty parlours and malls.

Meanwhile, Health Minister, AL Hek informed that till date 8,504 samples have been sent for testing out of which 8,094 tested negative and the results of 338 tests are awaited.

It may be mentioned that Meghalaya has recorded 27 COVID-19 positive cases, out of which 12 has recovered, one deceased and 14 cases are active.

Moreover, the Deputy Chief Minister, informed that so far 11,916 stranded students and individuals have reached the state and a batch of 400 odd people of Meghalaya will be leaving Mumbai on Monday evening by train.
