Meghalaya Government Announces Reopening Of Schools From October 1, Releases SOP

Shillong: The Meghalaya government has announced that all schools across the state will resume classes from October 1, 2021.

This was informed in a notification released on Wednesday by the Meghalaya government. In the notification, it was stated that the schools for Class I to Class XII are permitted to reopen in rural areas. However, in urban areas, only school visits and online classes will be permitted for students from Class I to Class V, while regular classes will resume for Class VI to Class XII.

The protocols laid down by the Meghalaya government for the reopening of schools are given below:

1. Consent of parents is paramount. Parents will have the final say on the physical presence of their wards, attendance norms shall be relaxed.

2. Teaching hours will be limited to three to four hours per day and no cultural gathering or sports events will be permitted.

3. Schools/colleges will have to provide isolation facilities and tie-up with local health departments for any emergency situation.

4. Non-vaccinated teachers/staff shall have to undergo a mandatory RTPCR test every 10 days and submit the test certificate to the school head.

5. Only 15-20 students shall be permitted to be present in a class at a given time and to ensure this, schools will call students on shifts or alternate days. A safe distance of six feet will be maintained between two benches.

6. Use of face covers/masks to be made mandatory.

7. Frequent handwashing with soap and use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers.
