Meghalaya government orders overhaul of insurance scheme

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Government has initiated a stringent review of the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma directing urgent reforms to address mounting concerns over delayed payments and rejected claims.

Reviewing the implementation of MHIS in a high-level meeting on Wednesday alongside Health Minister Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh and senior officials from the Health Department, the Chief Minister took stock of the existing loopholes hampering the scheme’s delivery.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “The (Health) department has been directed to urgently examine the causes behind delays in payments and claim rejections, and to take corrective measures in order to ensure that the scheme is implemented efficiently and transparently to serve the best interests of every resident of Meghalaya.”
