SHILLONG: Contrary to reports that Governor Tathagata Roy will be resuming charge of the office on Saturday, he has decided to extend his leave.

Sources said, “The Governor decided to extend his leave for another week or so.”

According to sources, Roy decided to extend his leave after a telephonic conversation with someone in the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Earlier, on Friday evening there were reports that suggested Roy will return to the Raj Bhavan on Saturday to resume his duty after completing his 18 days of leave.

Roy had gone on leave following his controversial tweet asking those who do not want “divisive democracy to go to North Korea” during the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 in the State.

Nagaland Governor RN Ravi was given the additional charge of Meghalaya during the absence of leave of Roy.

Roy tenure as Meghalaya Governor ends on May 2020.

There has been difference between the Governor and the National People’s Party led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government over his refusal to give his assent to the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019.
