
SHILLONG: On the inaugural day of the Assembly budget session, Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar presented a visionary plan for the state to emerge as a $10 billion economy by 2028. Speaking on the inaugural day, he stressed that the government would go in for adopting traditional knowledge in combination with cutting-edge innovation for sustainable growth, while also ensuring the preservation of the state's rich cultural heritage.
Governor Vijayashankar referred to several ongoing initiatives like CM CONNECT and Hello Meghalaya, which seek to enhance governance and showcase the state's vibrant culture. These initiatives leverage technology to simplify services for citizens and highlight Meghalaya's unique identity.
The Governor has mentioned remarkable advancement in every sector, such as infrastructure, power, water supply, IT, tourism, and agriculture. Developmental projects are being supported by multilateral institutions like the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, where almost Rs 395 crore is being allocated under the PM DeVINE program for infrastructure development in Shillong, Tura, and Dympep.
He also praised the CM ELEVATE scheme, which has positively impacted over 2,800 beneficiaries by providing subsidies for businesses in agriculture and tourism. Key road projects, including the Shillong-Dawki Highway and the Meghalaya Economic Growth Corridor (MEGA), are underway to enhance connectivity throughout the state.
The Governor assured that Meghalaya would achieve freedom from scheduled load shedding by 2025 through planned infrastructure upgrades. He also gave reports of agricultural exports in the form of successful shipments of high-value commodities and noted successful health initiatives enhancing maternal and child care. Law and order has been stable with successful elections as well as the introduction of new criminal laws meant to enhance the legal framework.
