A reward of Rs.5000 will be provided to anyone who will provide specific information on the incidences of illegal mining or transportation of illegal coal. This was announced by the Meghalaya government at a time when the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government raised serious allegations related to the illegal transportation of coal in the state.

Earlier, a group of Ministers met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and alleged that illegal transportation of coal has re-surfaced in the state. Thus, to get a hold of those people who are involved in illegal mining, the Mining and Geology department has offered the reward to those who will provide credible information regarding the seizure of coal or vehicles carrying illegal coal.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, said that due to the allegations of corruption in two district councils - Garo Hills Autonomous District Council(GHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), and the allegations related to the illegal transportation of coal, there were some differences within the MDA government.

Tynsong further informed that the MDA has a coordination committee that discusses issues concerning the government and the coalition partners.
