Staff Correspondent

Shillong: Meghalaya has put in place a strict protocol for truck drivers and handyman entering the State for transporting essential commodities. The eleven point protocol issued on Wednesday stated that trucks will have to be disinfected at the entry points while drivers and handymen will be scanned at the same location. They will also be provided with masks and hand sanitizers.

The truckers will have to provide their names, address, phone numbers and their travel history of the past fourteen days will be examined. As per the order, the drivers/handyman will have to carry packed food and there should be no stoppage except in extreme circumstances.

The truckers are asked to stay at an identified place in case they have to halt for the night and inform the authorities concerned for such overnight stay.

For loading and unloading commodities, the agency concerned should make arrangements to use local labour, besides the direction to maintain hand hygiene and cough etiquette.
