Meghalaya: Govt & Pvt Offices to Function with 50% Capacity, Schools to Close from April 20

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has decided to close all schools from tomorrow for the next 14 days till 4th May 2021 in the Shillong area.

However, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma stated that the ongoing MBOSE examinations will continue unaffected.

Further, the state government has also decided to operate all government and private offices with 50 percent capacity.

In a tweet, the minister wrote, "All schools to close from tomorrow for the next 14 days till 4th May 2021 in the Shillong area. Ongoing MBOSE examinations will continue unaffected. Govt. & Pvt. offices will also function with 50% capacity. The situation in other districts is being closely monitored."

Earlier today the state government has also decided to close its doors to tourists from outside the state from 23rd April 2021.

In a tweet the Meghalaya chief minister wrote, "#Meghalaya will close its doors to tourists from outside the state from 23rd April 2021 however, local tourism will continue. There will also be closure in tourist locations that have high tourist footfall. The time frame of RT-PCR tests will be reduced from 72 to 48 hrs."

Meghalaya, on Sunday, recorded another COVID-19 death taking the number of fatalities to 153, informed Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War, adding that the new fatality was recorded in East Khasi Hills district.

On Sunday, Meghalaya recorded 73 new cases, and 41 persons recovered from the virus. The active cases in the State stand at 680 while 14,038 persons have so far recovered from the infection. Of the 73 new cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 36 (Armed Force/Paramilitary Force: one; civilians: 35); Ri-Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills district: 12 each; West Garo Hills: five; West Khasi Hills: three; East Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills: two each; and East Garo Hills and East Jaintia Hills: one each.

Of the 41 recoveries, 40 are from East Khasi Hills district (Armed Force/Paramilitary Force: seven; civilians: 33). East Khasi Hill is the most-affected district with 470 cases (Armed Forces/Para Military Forces: 28; civilians: 442); West Jaintia Hills: 109; Ri-Bhoi: 45 (Armed Forces/Para Military Forces: three; civilians: 42); West Khasi Hills:18; East Jaintia Hills: 17; West Garo Hills: 13 (Armed Forces/Para Military Forces: two; civilians:11); South West Khasi Hills: six; East Garo Hills and North Garo Hills: one each.
