Meghalaya govt. takes steps to ensure supply of essential commodities during lockdown

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government on Wednesday has taken up measures to ensure the steady supply of essential commodities during the 21-day lockdown called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Cabinet decided that from March 27, in the urban areas of the state like Shillong, Tura and Jowai authorities will ensure that essential supplies would be available in all localities.

“We will make sure that supplies of essential commodities reach all the localities and we will coordinate with the Dorbar Shnongs for this purpose,” Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said.

In the rural areas, Tynsong said that the respective Deputy Commissioners will chalk out plans with the respective traditional heads to ensure the supply of essential commodities to the citizens.

He also said that commodities under Public Distribution System (PDS) will be distributed till for the month of June.

“We have asked for the allotment till the month of June,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

He also informed that the government has set aside three quarantine places in the state consisting of the AYUSH Hospital at NEIAH, the TB Hospital at Umsawli and the Cancer Wing at the Civil Hospital Shillong.

“There are not less than 200 rooms,” Tynsong said.
