Meghalaya GVK EMRI Tackled 1,507 ‘Emergency Cases’ in September

SHILLONG: The GVK EMRI 108 Emergency Management Service (EMS) which is in the 10th year of its operation in Meghalaya has handled 1,507 ‘emergency cases’ in the month of September 2018.

According to the 108 Emergency Management Services, a total of 7224 calls were received by the 108 Emergency Response Centre of which 18 percent were emergency calls.

The region-wise emergency calls have seen 87 percent calls coming from Khasi Hills region while 13 percent calls originated from Garo hills region.

Altogether 533 inter-facility transfer cases were handled in September 2018. Around 27.7 percent of the total cases handled were pregnancy-related emergencies. From January 2018 to September 2018, a total of 3,859 pregnancy-related cases were attended to.

The month of September this year saw a 7.7 percent of road traffic accident cases which has dropped by 1.2 percent from the annual average in the current year where a total of 1,279 road accident cases were handled since January 2018 to September 2018.

A total of 139 acute abdomen emergency cases, 132 fever and infection cases, 39 cardiac cases and 31 neonate cases were also handled in the month of September.

A total of 1,594 lives were saved and 138 deliveries assisted in the period between January 2018 and September 2018.

An average of 77 percent cases was admitted in government hospitals while the rest in private and trust hospitals.

The services have maintained a reach time of 18 minutes in the urban areas and 27 minutes in the rural areas.

The call-to-hospital-reach time in the urban area was maintained at 43 minutes and that in rural areas stood at 1 hour and 16 minutes.

38.1 percent of emergency cases came from urban areas while the share for rural cases stood at 65.9 percent. The uptime has been maintained at 97.8 percent.
