Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek Holds Review Meeting

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek held a review meeting of healthcare services with officials of the Health Department and the district administration of Garo Hills in Tura on Monday. “Healthcare is a primary service for the citizens and we are moving forward to ensure better and effective delivery of healthcare services,” Hek said. “We have taken necessary measures enhance the services with the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana in Meghalaya,” he said. The minister urged officials to be prepared to find solutions and be innovative to tackle challenges.

He said that the Central Government has given adequate consideration to Meghalaya by substantially increasing funding for implementation of distribution of free medicines.

“We are highly indebted to the government of India and Health Minister Dr Harshvardhanji for his overwhelming support,” he said.

The minister has also instructed the Health Department to streamline distribution of medicine to different healthcare centres –hospitals, CHCs, PHCs and sub-centres, so that medicine are available in right quantity to cater to the need of the patients.

He pointed out that the priority of the government is to improve rural healthcare infrastructure. “We will make adequate investments to improve healthcare services,” Hek said.

He also said that there is a need to sought suggestions from the Health Department officials to ensure that the objective to serve the people better is achieved.
